To be honest, I’m not your traditional mother. I have my belly button pierced. When the kids are zooming, you can find me at the gym. Full disclosure: I really enjoy breaks from my kids. I hire tutors because I already completed 6th grade math. Does that mean I don’t love my kids or that I’m a bad mom? Actually, the opposite. My parenting path flows with honesty and realism. It’s a loving path. It’s an authentic path. It’s a healthy path.
My kids are loved beyond belief, while I stay true to what makes me a better mom. A mom who will not lose her identity. A mom who fights for what she loves. A mom who loves herself. Loving yourself is the most important practice for all of us. And here’s how it shows up for me:
- Taking a nightly bath
- Lymphatic massages
- Postprandial walks (walking after dinner)
- Enjoying some retail therapy
- Making exercise a priority daily
Self care and brutal honesty is the only thing I am guilty of.
